So, what criteria do you look for in a home business? And what is it based upon? What makes your criteria more important than someone else’s?
You see, what’s important to one person, may not be so important to another – we all have our own biases when it comes to choosing the “perfect” business.
With that said, there are irrefutable good business habits that you absolutely need as a business owner in order to be successful. You could choose the “best” business on the planet, but if you don’t have the skills and discipline in place you’re gonna drive that business into the ground.
Before you pick your next business, you should do an accountability on yourself and see what crucial business skills you’re lacking. For most people, it is lack of good business habits i.e. discipline, lack of marketing skills, and lack of belief in oneself and/or the products/services being promoted.
If you go into a business with these kind of deficiencies, no matter how great you think the business is, you’re going to struggle and battle with a lot of frustration before finally giving up altogether.
Take Stock and Pick Wisely
Take stock of what you’re lacking and find a company that can help you build up your weaknesses – especially the critical ones mentioned earlier.
This is one of the major things that sets SFI apart from other kinds of businesses – it helps build up your crucial business muscles – the ones you must have for success.
I’ll explain more about that later…
Are You a Home Business Veteran?
If you’ve been around the home business industry for any length of time, you know that a lot of companies don’t give you much in the way of training. Nor do a lot of companies help you build those all important business muscles you need for success.
I hate to say this…
A lot of network marketing companies want you to buy that all expensive business kit and keep you on costly autoship of their products.
For one they know they can make fast money with you when you get that ultra pricey business kit right from the get-go.
Second, they know the odds of you building the business successfully are pretty dismal – they know you’re not going to recruit more than one or two people at best.
They also definitely know that you’re not going to be able to sell the products because they’re typically very “nichey” and at a much higher price-point than other comparable products.
And nearly most companies don’t even bother to teach you how to sell these types of products anyhow.
Lastly, they know your distributor life is pretty short – odds are less than six months. Do you think they see any advantages in investing in your education as a business owner if you’re not likely to stick around too long?
The vast majority of companies is just concerned about profits and not helping you develop as a business person.
Can you know see why so many people fail in network marketing and affiliate marketing?
SFI strives to be different. In fact, this is another thing that sets SFI apart from most network marketing companies and affiliate networks, most of which have no business or marketing training. SFI does a pretty good job of helping you become a better business person and developing those crucial business skills you need.

Develop Good Business Habits
The fact of the matter is that you must have good business habits or else you’re going to fail. When I say business habits, I mean you as a business owner are showing up everyday to build your business. Can you imagine if you went down to your favorite store to buy something only to find it closed when it should be open.
Wouldn’t you be frustrated? Wouldn’t you label that company unreliable? Wouldn’t you sooner or later stop showing up there?
Well, yes of course. There a lot of people who are supposed to be business owners who operate in this manner. They’re closed when they should be open. They don’t market their business consistently.
I can’t say this enough – the vast majority of network marketing companies don’t do enough to help its reps develop good business habits.
How SFI Helps You Develop Your Business Habits
SFI has point system reward for those those that login daily and perform certain tasks. This is helping you develop that good business habits “muscle” that you must use. This also is preparing you to be accountable to yourself, your business, your upline, your downline, your family, and everyone else who is counting on you to be successful.
Earlier I mentioned how most network marketing companies have products that are extremely hard to sell (retail) because they don’t appeal to the average person at the price-point they’re selling at.
This is another check mark under reasons why a lot of network marketers fail. They’re in companies with products that are hard to retail and so they attempt to recruit. The vast majority of the ones that go this route also have a hard time recruiting and so now they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place because they’re having difficulty recruiting and selling.
How SFI Gives Its Affiliates Choices
With over 90k products to choose from, your odds of finding a product that you could comfortably retail goes up drastically with SFI.
Not to mention, that you don’t even have to pick out a specific product, all you have to do is point people to the Tripleclicks homepage (you get your own affiliate link) and people can choose the products they want to buy. Remember, Tripleclicks is your store too!
Affordability is an Important Component to a Home Business
You’ve seen them – those nasty blog posts and comments left by disgruntled distributors and reps of network marketing companies. Every company has disgruntled ex-distributors – that’s nothing new.
But if we look closer “under the hood” we’ll see what the primary complaints are from these ex-distributors of these major network marketing companies:
1.The company took away the distributorship of a rep because they violated the company’s rules/policies and procedures. This of course involves the loss of income and future income for the rep.
The rep feels “wronged” in some way even if it was their fault. You’ll see a lot of ex-distributors of just about every network marketing company out there posting negative stuff about their ex-company.
2.The compensation plan changed and now the reps aren’t making what they used to make or they plain ol’ don’t like changes of any kind especially to a comp plan.
3.They (the ex-distributor) spent the (rent/mortgage/car payment/utility bill – pick one) money on the business opportunity and they haven’t made a profit yet or made back the money they invested into the business.
4.They ex-distributor feels mislead. They thought the business would be easy or worse yet, a distributor made misleading comments or made income predictions/claims that swayed the person to sign up and now they feel they were taken advantage of after they’ve bought into the business opportunity.
So, there you have four primary complaints that you see around the ‘net in regards to network marketing companies. If you closely look at all four of them, you’ll see that ultimately it revolves around money.
So, what can you do as a person who’s looking for a business opportunity?
#1 Know what you can afford to spend towards starting a business
#2 Know what you can afford to spend every month to keep that business running
#3 Know what you can afford to spend every month on advertising
#4 Understand the business and what’s required of you – and read the policies and procedures
I would say the vast majority of people who join a business don’t take the time to know how much of a business can fit realistically into their budget. Some people come on board in a business thinking that they’ll be millionaires in a week and so they think that the cost to start a business is insignificant.
You always have to do a worse case scenario when it comes to deciding if a particular business fits into your budget.
What if you don’t make any money for six months, can you financially keep the business going? What if you don’t make back your investment for nine months, will that money you invested hinder you paying your bills?
Here’s a common theme…
The Common Path to Despair
A good hard-working person (let’s call him “Billy”) sees a biz opp being promoted all over the net with people posting how much money they’re making and how easy it is to make a lot of money fast.
And so “Billy” finds out that the cost to get in is more than he expected. He does not have any extra money sitting around to afford this business.
So “Billy” does what a lot of people do – he takes his rent money and decides to use that to buy into the business. His reasoning is that everyone makes it seems so easy to make money that he thinks he’ll make back the rent money in a couple of weeks.
“Billy” is now seven weeks in and he has not made any money yet…and he’s late on his rent. He’s in a deeper financial mess because he bought extra trainings and tools and even bought into an expensive advertising co-op because his upline pressured him to.
All along the way “Billy” keeps thinking that any day now the big money is gonna come rolling in, but the reality is that “Billy” is sinking deeper into debt and despair as each day goes by.
He gets very frustrated and then blames all his financial woes on the biz opp – they got him into this mess. He then thinks that because he had not made any money and actually lost money, that the biz opp must be a scam. And so now every chance he gets to “knock” the company he does so. He even set up a blog warning people of this business opportunity because they’re a “scam” in his mind.
Although you may think this scenario seems far-fetched, it’s actually quite common. Maybe you’ve been a “Billy” in the past. It’s understandable.
If You Could Turn Back Time…
So, if you could go back into time with “Billy”, what was the first mistake that he made?
First of all, believing all the hype that people put out there about making gobs and gobs of money. Making income claims is a no-no for this very reason. The second mistake “Billy” did was joining a business opportunity that wasn’t in his budget to begin with.
The third mistake “Billy” made was using his rent money to buy into the business and thinking that he’ll make it back by the time the rent is due (this is called gambling by the way).
The best thing “Billy” could have done given his severe financial restrictions would’ve been to become an affiliate for SFI because there is no cost to join and they give business training and help someone like “Billy” hone his business skills.
If “Billy” wanted more leverage he could’ve tapped into the network marketing side of SFI and built a salesforce to help him sell more products.
The Best of Both Worlds
Unlike nearly most companies out there, SFI is a hybrid – you can do just the affiliate side and never touch the network marketing side or you can do only the network marketing side for bigger leverage, or do a combination of both. With SFI, unlike most companies out there, you have real choices as to how you build your business.
Affordability is key when choosing a business opportunity. Most people don’t equate affordability with a network marketing company because of all the requirements that are typically required of distributors (back office tools, systems, autoship costs, etc…).
The biggest way SFI is greatly different from other typical network marketing companies is that there is no cost to join and they offer free business tools. Even if you did not have two nickels to rub together, you could afford to start an SFI business.
NOTE: I do highly recommend that you have money set aside to build your business.
In fact, SFI has affiliates in over 190 countries – even the poorest of the poor countries have affiliates who are doing quite well in SFI. This business has literally been a godsend to them because they get a lot of tools, marketing adis, email mailer, ecards, and much more at no cost, whereas in other network marketing companies (if they offered these kinds of tools) this would be an additional burdensome cost.
If you’re on a tight budget, joining SFI should be at the top of your list, not just for the many opportunities you have to make money, but also because they develop you as a business person and offer business training you’re going to need if you ever hope to be successful.
Being Bored Can Affect Your Paycheck
One thing a lot of people don’t mention, but is quite a factor when choosing a business opportunity, is the dullness factor.
Let me explain…
There are network marketing companies out there that never ever changes. They don’t offer contests, they don’t consistently add new products, they don’t put out a newsletter, they don’t tell you what’s going on with the company, none of that. You feel like an outsider looking in.
If you’ve ever been part of a business where nothing ever happens then you know how the feeling of boredom and dullness can set in.
How excited would you be to work a business where nothing ever changes, corporate doesn’t send out a newsletter, there are never any contests, there’s no community? It would probably be a business you wouldn’t look forward to building.
That would a be a business that wouldn’t entice a lot of prospective prospects to join either. After all, you have no exciting news to share with potential leads that would get them interested in learning more about the business opportunity or its products in the first place.
In an age where the attention span of people is getting shorter, not longer, you want to be in a business where things are constantly growing, evolving, and thriving so it keeps people on their toes and engaged in the business.
This is what SFI does very well. In fact, every month you give a rating to your sponsor as well as to SFI as to how well they did the previous month in making SFI better. They want feedback to improve. Even the CEO of SFI, Gery Carson, is found frequently in the forums mingling and answering questions from its affiliates.
You’re not going to see that with any other affiliate program or network marketing company. In fact, a lot of companies don’t care to hear your feedback or criticisms, whereas SFI welcomes it.
Re-Cap – What Makes SFI Stand Apart From the Crowd
The first thing you’ll want to do is have a look at this chart (pdf). It will show you at a glance how it benefits you to become an SFI affiliate – whether you’re brand spanking’ new to the home business industry looking to get a leg up on success or if you’re a veteran who’s looking for a fresh start with a thriving and evolving company.
Having been in the home business space for some time, I can tell you from experience that the more business building tools, marketing aids, business training, and enforcing of good business habits a business opportunity offers, the more likely its affiliates are to have success.
SFI has quite a bit of affiliates that have been with the company for over 10 years!
Most network marketing companies do a very poor job of helping its distributors develop good business habits (one of the biggest causes of distributors not making money in network marketing).
If you’re serious about your goals, whether they be financial or just more time freedom, you’ll join a company like SFI that gives you the business training, business-building tools and many opportunities to earn money without costing you an arm and a leg.
